Tainan’s 1.4-hectare “painted rice field” depicts the rural scenery of the historic city using rice seedlings

Tainan’s “Rice Festival” kicked off on the 4th, featuring not only a variety of creative rice-based dishes but also a 1.4-hectare rice field painting that showcases rural landscapes through seedlings, bringing a refreshing new look to the lush green sea of rice.

The Houpi, Xinying, Baihe, Dongshan, Liuying, and Liujia districts of Tainan have an annual rice cultivation area of about 24,000 hectares, earning them the title “Taiwan’s Rice Barn.” To help the public learn about rice field industry culture, local farmers have turned the rice fields into a giant canvas, using four colors of seedlings—purple, green, yellow, and white—to depict a playful scene of children holding steaming bowls of rice and happily eating, set against the backdrop of Tainan’s iconic Anping Fort Lighthouse. Additionally, the 4th floor of the Houpi District Farmers’ Association has been specially designed as an observation deck for the painted rice field, allowing visitors to experience the charm of the historic capital of Tainan while also enjoying the rural rice field scenery.

Tainan’s “Rice Festival” runs from now until the 12th. In addition to viewing the rice field art, the Houpi District Farmers’ Association also offers straw handicraft experiences, where visitors can weave unique artistic creations from straw, along with sampling a rich variety of rice dishes—ensuring all visitors can enjoy the charm of “Taiwan’s Rice Barn.”
