A Mini Getaway for the “Micro-Bohemian” Spirit: Discover a Different Nostalgic Old Taipei

Most people’s impression of Taipei City is often limited to the bustling and vibrant Xinyi District, filled with luxury residences and high-rises. But in reality, Taipei is home to a wealth of humanistic history just waiting to be explored. The latest《DISCOVER TAIPEI》English-Japanese quarterly magazine summer issue embraces the current “bohemian” trend and features nostalgic elements such as Taipei’s historic buildings as its cover story, offering a glimpse into the diverse cultural heritage we rarely get to see.

When it comes to historic buildings, in addition to Beitou’s century-old Japanese-style hot spring inns, the old street blocks of Dihua Street, and Wanhua, which has been featured in movies, you can also visit Yangmingshan to see the old dormitories left behind by the U.S. military. This issue’s “Old Town Bohemian Micro-Trip” also highlights many creative shops and art galleries mainly located along Taiyuan Road, Chang’an West Road, and Chifeng Street, teaching you how to become a bohemian in a second.

In addition to historic buildings and old streets, Taipei also boasts many well-maintained nature trails that offer great opportunities for family outings and connecting with nature.
