A single character mistake leads to a huge blunder! On the 20th, Vanilla Air announced on its official fan page that a promotional event would be held at 11:00 AM on the 21st, offering a special price of 600 yuan for one-way tickets from Taipei to Tokyo, which excited many people. But three hours after the event began today, Vanilla Air only then posted on its fan page: it should have been “save 600 yuan,” not a ticket priced at 600 yuan. By then, 17 hours had passed since the initial announcement, prompting widespread anger among netizens.

Vanilla Air explained in a post that due to an input error by the Facebook administrator, what should have been entered was “save 600 yuan” instead of a ticket price of 600 yuan, and apologized to the public. However, netizens criticized the airline’s response as insincere, ridiculous, a waste of time, and “full of nonsense in July,” with some even suggesting Vanilla Air join the “Workplace Nonsense Competition,” where it might even win first prize.

Vanilla Air’s general agent in Taiwan, Wan Jun Travel Agency, stated that this was indeed a misunderstanding caused by a copywriting error. In addition to apologizing to the public, they will also conduct an internal review. Wan Jun also revealed that the current lowest ticket price on the website is 2,388 yuan, and after a 600-yuan discount, it would be 1,788 yuan. However, according to calculations by a reporter, the discounted ticket price of 1,788 yuan still has a price difference of 1,188 yuan compared to the originally advertised 600-yuan ticket price, which explains why the public is dissatisfied.
As for netizens suggesting that the 600-yuan ticket promotion should be held again, Wan Jun said they need to discuss it further with the head office.
