Follow the sequence of 'arrive in the north – explore central culture – discover southwest nature – island-hop in the southeast – wrap up in the north', covering a total distance of about 300 kilometers. Self-driving or private car hire is suitable. Accommodation is recommended for the first two nights in Grand Baie (northwest), the middle two nights in the southwest, and the last two nights back in the north or east.
Visit the Royal Botanic Gardens in Pamplemousses in the morning to see giant water lilies and iconic palm trees, head to the Red Roof Chapel (Cape Malheureux) for photos in the afternoon, return to Grand Baie Beach for sunset in the evening, and explore the Grand Baie night market and restaurant street at night.
Head south via the Black River Gorges National Park viewpoint, visiting the Chamarel Seven Colored Earths, Chamarel Waterfall, and a rum distillery (tasting available) in sequence. Spend the afternoon relaxing on the western beaches of Le Morne Peninsula, and stay overnight in the southwest or near Le Morne.
Early morning hike up Le Morne Brabant Mountain (a UNESCO World Heritage Site, round trip takes about 3 hours, start early to avoid the heat), or opt for a helicopter tour to see the 'underwater waterfall' optical illusion. Spend the afternoon snorkeling in the bay and wrap up the day at a cape bar at sunset.
Join a catamaran day trip to Île aux Cerfs (Deer Island) for snorkeling, barbecue lunch, and a speedboat tour of the waterfalls; or drive to Blue Bay Marine Park for a glass-bottom boat coral viewing. Return to the north in the evening via the old town of Mahébourg.
Relax on the hotel beach or at the spa in the morning, shop for rum and black tea souvenirs, then head to the airport for departure. If you have a late flight, consider adding a visit to Flacq Market.
