Many parents, while eagerly looking forward to a comfortable family trip, feel overwhelmed at the thought of traveling with their little one. Especially when preparing for the first trip, it can feel nothing short of chaotic. But in reality, all you need is some straightforward, step-by-step preparation — it’s not as complicated or troublesome as you might imagine.
June, with its sunny skies and pleasant breeze, is a month that makes it hard to stay indoors. Traveling with kids in June means you won’t have to deal with sudden temperature swings, nor the sweltering humidity of midsummer, so the month always feels warm and comfortable — making it the best season for family trips. I’m also someone who can’t stand staying at home. Every Saturday when my child has a day off, I plan an outing. Traveling solo with a kid is tough work, especially physically. But I persist — I insist on “traveling with my child.”
Don’t kidnap your family in the name of “broadening horizons.” With rising living standards and the desire for children’s all-round development, child travel has become a hot trend. All kinds of “where to go” options are booming, and various travel agencies and tour guides are popping up one after another. From weekend park outings to domestic trips during May Day and National Day holidays, to overseas study tours and summer camps during winter and summer vacations, travel expenses have now become the third biggest educational spending killer, following school selection fees and extracurricular class fees.
Taking a baby under one year old on a trip isn’t necessarily because it’s hugely beneficial for the baby—more likely, we parents need the trip more, and we just bring the baby along. This is understandable, as many moms, from pregnancy to the newborn stage, have been entirely focused on the baby, rarely thinking about themselves. As the baby grows, especially after they can sit up, taking them out becomes much easier. At this point, moms may want to take their babies along

Taiwan has always been a favorite destination for artsy, indie-style youth. But what’s it like to visit Taiwan with your kids after becoming a parent? On the afternoon of April 16, we arrived in Taipei, picked up a rental car from a local company, and began our clockwise island-wide road trip. We explored Taiwan’s mountains and waters, eventually returning to Taipei with a total driving distance of 1,800 kilometers, and left Taiwan on the afternoon of April 26. My teammate drove, I planned, and our child played.

From small trips to life itself, no matter how well you plan, unexpected situations will always arise. Teaching your child—and yourself—to face changes with equanimity, or even to embrace an “accident,” is not only a way of parenting but also a matter of inner choice.
