Epitaph of Princess Chen Guo

The Epitaph of Princess Chen Guo is a cultural tourism attraction.

An epitaph box unearthed from the joint burial tomb of Princess and Prince at Qinglong Mountain in Naiman Banner is the only epitaph discovered so far among the numerous Liao Dynasty tombs excavated in the Jirem League. The epitaph is carved from green sandstone, with both the epitaph slab and cover being square, each measuring 89.5 cm on each side and 28 cm in total height. The four inclined surfaces are lined with 12 roughly identical figures, each with a Chinese zodiac animal atop their heads. The center features an intaglio seal script reading “Epitaph of the Late Princess Chen Guo.” The epitaph slab is 12 cm thick, and the regular script inscription is finely engraved with clear, well-preserved characters. Its discovery supplements gaps in the historical records of the Liao Dynasty found in the History of Liao, opens new avenues for research on Liao history, and provides important physical evidence for the study of Liao Dynasty history.
