Mengjiaduan Wetland Tourist Area

The Mengjiaduan Wetland Tourist Area is a national-level wetland park.

The Mengjiaduan Wetland Tourist Area is located in Baxiantong Town, Naiman Banner, Tongliao City, covering an area of 42 square kilometers. Construction includes: wetland conservation and restoration, a water park, an ethnic culture park, a fishing village, the Shahu International Fishing Competition Center, an international shooting center, a self-drive campsite, a wetland viewing area (bird zoo), North Frontier Water Town, as well as systems for science education, research monitoring, and disaster prevention. The tourist area boasts advantageous tourism resources such as wetlands, sand lakes, grasslands, and forests, integrating leisure, vacation, and entertainment. It plans to apply for national 4A-level tourist area status in 2018 and national 5A-level status in 2025. Upon completion, it is expected to receive 500,000 visitors annually, generating comprehensive tourism revenue exceeding 150 million yuan, and providing employment for 1,200 people in tourism, environmental protection, catering, accommodation, culture, transportation, local specialty sales, and fruit and vegetable farming.

The Shahu International Fishing Competition Center is located south of the administrative office area of the Mengjiaduan Reservoir Management Committee in Naiman Banner. It is a multi-functional tourism project integrating leisure and entertainment, competitive events, and vacation travel. The fishing center covers a total area of 134 mu, including a leisure fishing pond (23.5 mu), a children’s play pool (11.5 mu), a competitive fishing pool (15 mu), and other auxiliary facilities (160 mu). The tourist area is built around the Mengjiaduan Reservoir, which was established in 1958. The reservoir area spans 90 square kilometers, with a designed storage capacity of 108 million cubic meters, a maximum flood discharge capacity of 315 cubic meters per second, a designed irrigation area of 117,000 mu, and an actual irrigation area of 22,800 mu. It has over 30,000 mu of fishable water surface, 287 fish ponds, over 10,000 mu of suitable forest land, and more than 1,000 mu of farmland. The Mengjiaduan Shahu is currently the largest freshwater lake in China’s desert regions in terms of water storage and has the best-preserved vegetation landscape. In 2015, the Mengjiaduan Wetland was designated by the National Forestry Administration as a “National Wetland Park (Pilot).”

Baxiantong Town: Baxiantong Town is situated in the central-eastern part of Naiman Banner. The town government is located near the Beijing-Tongliao Railway and National Highway 111. To the south is Gurbantünggüt Sumu; to the west are Baiyintala Sumu and Weiliansu Township; to the north are Ping’an Town and Mingren Sumu; to the east is Dongming Town. The location is strategically advantageous, with National Highway 111 and the Beijing-Tongliao Railway running through the area, ensuring convenient transportation, advanced communication, and complete infrastructure. The town covers a total land area of 700 square kilometers, including 139,000 mu of arable land.
