Bronze Age ruins

The Bronze Age ruins are a cultural tourism attraction.

The Bronze Age ruins include the Baoshanlou Site and the Houmen Bronze Weapons Excavation Site. The Baoshanlou Site is located in Longgangpu, a valley east of Baoshanlou Village in Dongchong Town, while the Houmen Bronze Weapons Excavation Site is situated two kilometers southeast of Houmen Town in Haifeng County.

The Baoshanlou Site dates back over 2,500 years, approximately to the Western Zhou to Spring and Autumn periods. Artifacts excavated here include bronze axes, bronze bells, and stone molds for bronze hairpins and stone hairpins. The Houmen Bronze Weapons Excavation Site was discovered in April 1984 when local residents digging for shellfish unearthed over ten skeletons, three of which were missing skulls. Bronze weapons—a short sword, a spear, and arrowheads—were found lodged in the ribs of these three. Research indicates that they were cast during the Bronze Age. Analysis suggests that the three headless skeletons may have been tribal leaders from southern China during the Spring and Autumn period who were either injured, killed in battle, or captured. Their heads may have been removed by victorious tribes as trophies or for public display.
