Jiazi Town

Jiazi Town is an ancient and early-developed town in eastern Guangdong. Originally called Jiazi Gate, it earned its name because the harbor features large stone walls standing in rows like a gate, corresponding to the sixty characters of the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches cycle. Located in the southern part of Lufeng City, it faces Jiaodong Town across Ying River to the east, borders Huilai County of Jieyang City to the north, connects to Jiaxi Town to the west, and lies along the South China Sea.

The terrain of Jiazi Town is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, characterized by a hilly landscape. The surface geology mainly consists of loess with a relatively high sand content and firm texture. It has a subtropical monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 22°C, mild and rainy weather, and abundant sunshine. The area boasts rich aquatic and local produce resources. Jiazi Town has seen rapid development in industry and fisheries, along with a thriving commercial sector, earning it the reputation of “Golden Jiazi.” Its industries mainly include eight sectors: light industry, food, garments, plastics, machinery, fishing gear, electronic hardware, and arts and crafts, with thousands of types of export products. Among them, the gemstone globes produced by Jiazi Yuying Gem Craft Factory are internationally advanced in both their unique colored gemstones and exquisite artistic design, winning widespread acclaim from customers both at home and abroad.

Jiazi Town boasts enchanting scenery and abundant tourism resources. Dai Du Mountain: In the second year of the Southern Song Dynasty’s Emperor Duanzong (1277), the Song emperor ascended Jiazi Gate and came to Dai Du Mountain. Fisherman Zheng Fuweng raised a rebellion to support the emperor against the Yuan invaders. Later generations built Jiaxiu Tower, Jinshi Pavilion, and General Temple on the mountain in his memory. Stone inscriptions by famous figures of the Song Dynasty, Qing Dynasty jinshi (advanced scholars), and juren (presented scholars) have left their calligraphy, turning Dai Du Mountain into a natural scenic area. Red Building: Built in 1925, it served as the strategic headquarters for the revolutionary struggle led by senior revolutionaries such as [name redacted] and Nie Rongzhen during the Eastern Expedition. Jiaxiu Academy: The site of Jiazi Town No. 1 Middle School. In the tenth year of the Qing Dynasty’s Jiaqing reign, provincial official Na Gong (name unknown) visited Jiazi and, using part of his own salary, instructed local gentry and wealthy households to fund the construction of the academy, which was used to cultivate talents aiming to pass exams for xiucai (licentiates), gongsheng (tribute students), and juren. Additionally, there are ancient Eight Scenic Spots such as “Tidal Bifurcation in Human Shape,” “Parrot Pecking at Carp,” and “Remarkable Wood and Stone Formations.” Jiazi is abundant in seafood, with premium offerings including mackerel, eel, grouper, pomfret, squid, prawns, and lobsters.
