Qingfeng Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Qingfeng Temple is located in Wumian Ridge to the north of Tanxi Town, Lufeng.

Qingfeng Temple was first established in the first year of the Zhenyuan era of the Tang Dynasty (785 AD) by the Ninth Patriarch of the Southern School of Chan Buddhism, Dadian. It is one of the earlier ancient Buddhist temples in eastern Guangdong. Dadian (731–824 AD) initially studied under Master Huiming, then under Shitou and Xiqian, and practiced the Great Fearlessness Dharma at Luofu Waterfall Rock before traveling to Nanyue. On his way, he built a stone chamber at the foot of Faxiu Mountain to serve as a temple residence, where he began preaching the Buddhist teachings from the Western Heaven. Legend has it that after the temple was built, lights could be seen from afar at night, hence the name “Lights Temple.” Several years later, Dadian left the temple and traveled eastward. Due to Dadian’s establishment of the temple and his propagation of the Buddhist teachings from the Western Heaven, later generations renamed Faxiu Mountain as “Faliu Mountain.”

Qingfeng Temple is situated on the mountainside at an altitude of 800 meters, backed by peaks and facing a valley, with clouds and rain intermingling, creating a majestic atmosphere. After several renovations, it now has over 20 structures including halls, chambers, meditation rooms, and monks’ quarters, three arched bridges, and five stone pagodas. Since the Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties, the temple’s lineage has been passed down from generation to generation, with successive abbots including Dadian, Qingyin, Shuyin, Zhizhong, and Qiu Zeng. The Qingfeng Mountain area boasts lush pine forests, vibrant flowers, and uniquely shaped rocks. There are also bubbling springs that flow continuously, and ancient wells with sweet-tasting water.

In front of Qingfeng Mountain are a reservoir and Faliu Mountain. “Faliu Mountain” is one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Lufeng.

Tanxi Town: Located in the southwest of Lufeng City, downstream of the Luo River, Tanxi Town borders Shangying Town to the east, Haifeng County to the west, [unnamed area] to the south, and the Xingdu Economic Development Zone to the north. The town covers a total area of 75 square kilometers, with a population of 68,000, and governs 14 village (residential) committees. It enjoys a favorable geographical location and convenient transportation, with the Guangzhou-Shantou Highway and the Shenzhen-Shantou Expressway running across the entire area. The climate is mild, with spring-like weather all year round, and it boasts abundant natural resources, flat and fertile land, and a relatively developed agricultural sector, making it one of the main grain-producing areas in Lufeng City.
