The Shaxi Hot Spring Scenic Area gets its name from its location in Shaxi Village, Nantang Town. It enjoys an exceptionally advantageous setting, surrounded by mountains, covered in lush forests, with rolling hills and streams running through the area, as well as numerous small and large reservoir lakes. The hot spring originates from the Jiudao Mountain Range, with water gushing out continuously all year round. The daily water output reaches 1,500 cubic meters, and the water temperature ranges between 40 to 90 degrees Celsius. Testing has shown that the hot spring water contains 3.69 mg/L of sulfides, a total hardness of 278 mg/L, and a total salinity of 67.1 mg/L. It also contains a variety of trace elements beneficial to human health, offering effects such as disinfection, itch relief, moisture removal, skin moisturizing, and beautification.

Farmers around Shaxi utilize the hot spring and stream water to develop freshwater aquaculture, mainly raising freshwater fish and Shaxi soft-shelled turtles. The fish raised in the hot spring water and the high-quality water around Shaxi are far superior in meat quality and nutrition compared to those raised elsewhere. In particular, the Shaxi soft-shelled turtle—initially using ordinary turtle hatchlings from other regions—develops into premium “Shaxi Turtles” after being raised here. These turtles are known for their high nutritional content, tender meat, and delicious taste, making them a highly effective tonic. Long renowned since ancient times, they have become a treasured variety among soft-shelled turtles.

The Shaxi Hot Spring Scenic Area boasts pleasant scenery rich in pastoral charm.
