Lucheng Scenic Area
Lucheng (Donghai Town) is the seat of the Lufeng Municipal Party Committee and Government, serving as the political, economic, and cultural center of Lufeng City. The scenery in Lucheng is picturesque — the Luo River, originating from the green corridor of Luhe, rushes from the west of the city and flows into the sea, while its tributary, the Donghe River, runs through the center of Lucheng. Longshan Mountain lies majestically to the east like a giant dragon, and to the south lies the vast sea. The whole city is nestled against mountains and faces the sea, making it an ancient yet vibrant coastal city. This is the birthplace of China's first red political power, and the Lufeng Peasant Association Headquarters — an important component of the Haifeng-Lufeng Soviet regime — was located at the Lin Ancestral Hall in Liuyi. Peng Pai, an early leader of the Chinese Communist Party, was the founder of the Lufeng Peasant Association. The Longshan Middle School, situated at the foot of Longshan Mountain, has a history of over 260 years. Its patriotic teachers and students fought bravely and sacrificed their lives for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the liberation of New China, composing countless moving tales of patriotism. At the tree-lined foot of Longshan Mountain, there is a martyrs' cemetery and a heroes' monument; along the banks of the Donghe River, there are the River Peninsula Park and Yuzhao Park. Lucheng is well-equipped with tourist facilities, including five-star hotels with 838 beds and 3,520 dining seats, offering high-quality services in dining, accommodation, and entertainment. Lucheng is strategically located at the key junction connecting eastern Guangdong with external trade routes, and since ancient times, it has served as a distribution hub for goods traded in eastern Guangdong, the wider province, even the nation, and Hong Kong and Macao. Merchants and tourists arrived either by sea from Wukeng Port or via the old road from Guangzhou-Shanwei Highway. Local products, seafood, agricultural goods, and industrial products all continuously converged in the old and new marketplaces and shops of Lucheng. Tourists and merchants became a unique part of the city’s landscape, with Cantonese, Hakka, Teochew, Hokkien, and Mandarin — a mix of southern and northern dialects — all commonly spoken in Lucheng. The history of Lucheng, its landscapes, and its folk customs make it an ideal destination for red tourism, blue tourism (marine-related), and green tourism (nature-focused). The history of Lucheng, as a cultural tourism site, offers profound depth and richness to explore.
