Haijaling Scenic Area
Haijaling is situated at the southwestern edge of Jiaxi Town, adjacent to Hudong Town, with the sea to the south. The mountain range stretches six to seven kilometers from north to south, comprising peaks such as Taipingzhang, Longchuanzhang, Rentouzhang, and Lianhuafeng. The main peak reaches an elevation of 214 meters. The entire mountain ridge looks like a giant dragon charging into the sea, creating a majestic and spectacular sight. The area features uniquely shaped peaks, blue seas, lush green mountains, and verdant forests. Natural and cultural landscapes blend seamlessly, complementing each other. Throughout history, Haijaling’s distinctive coastal scenery has captivated and enchanted all who visit.
The main peak of Haijaling rises right by the sea. From its summit, the view is expansive and strikingly contrasted: the vast sea stretches endlessly with shimmering waves and scattered sails, blending seamlessly with the sky in boundless openness; within the mountain range, undulating peaks cloaked in dark green foliage are shrouded in mist. Gazing down at the mountains and sea, all living things appear serene and graceful.
The landform of Haijashan is unique, with massive rocks clinging to the mountain body. Over hundreds of millions of years of weathering, many legendary rock formations have been shaped. The main ones include: Lotus Stone, resembling a bud-ready lotus flower with vividly lifelike petals and stamens, also known as the "Guanyin’s Auspicious Throne" stone; Three-Star Stone, where three massive granite rocks, each weighing dozens of tons, stand upright on the mountaintop like celestial peaches bringing fortune, strikingly realistic; Golden Lion Stone, looking like a lion lying on the beach, playing with surging waves and roaring into the vast sea; Dead Sea Cliff, a steep cliff standing vertically along the shoreline, where raging waves crash against it, sending up showers of spray and thunderous roars. With its high waves and strong currents, it has long been a perilous spot for fishing boats and passing vessels. On clear days, while the surrounding sea remains calm and mirror-like, this area churns with turbulent waves. During rainy or windy days, waves can rise several meters high, crashing against the cliffs to form mist and unleashing deafening, heart-stopping roars.
Not far from the sea at Haijaling lies a cave called “Jinhua Cave,” also known as “Monster-Suppressing Cave.” It is one of the “Eighteen Southern Caves” that the Northern Song Dynasty court ordered to be eradicated. Legend says the cave stretches for dozens of miles, varying in width and depth with no visible bottom, and contains springs with hanging stalactites. Among the various folk tales, two are particularly popular. One says the cave was inhabited by a sea demon with immense magic power and extreme ferocity, repeatedly harming local residents and passing ships, becoming a monstrous scourge upon the nation. Emperor Song personally dispatched the famed general Yang Wenguang with troops to subdue the demon. Initially, the sea demon used its magic to duel with Yang Wenguang, who found it difficult to defeat the creature. Later, Yang Wenguang invited Guanyin Bodhisattva from the South Sea to help, and the demon was finally subdued, never to cause trouble again. The other tale speaks of corrupt officials during the Northern Song Dynasty imposing heavy taxes that plunged people into misery. A group of righteous rebels gathered and took refuge in Jinhua Cave. When local authorities reported to the imperial court, Yang Wenguang was ordered to quell the uprising. The rebels leveraged the cave’s treacherous terrain—its access easily defendable, with water and supplies inside, making it impenetrable to large forces. Yang Wenguang, finding no solution, reported to the court, which then punished the corrupt officials and disbanded the rebels, thus peacefully resolving the Jinhua Cave incident.
Lianfeng Temple, located atop Rentouzhang, was first built in the mid-Ming Dynasty and was quite large in scale. Due to historical changes, the temple halls and side rooms have collapsed, though their foundations remain; the mountain gate is still well-preserved, with inscriptions and plaques clearly visible.
Haijaling features a strategically rugged terrain. Since the establishment of the Jieshi garrison, it has served as a critical military coastal defense site. It has seen several military garrisons over time and has been the stage for numerous battles, functioning as both a maritime and land battleground against invasions by Japanese pirates. Many patriotic soldiers sacrificed their lives here, buried at sites such as “General’s Tomb,” “Anren Tomb,” and “Niangzi Watch.” Every corner of the Haijaling Scenic Area is steeped in either tragic or beautiful legends.
Jiaxi Town: Located at 116.1° east longitude and 22.6° north latitude, Jiaxi Town is situated in the southeastern part of Lufeng City. The Xi River and Aojiang River flow along its northern and southern borders, placing it within the hinterland of the two special economic zones, Shenzhen and Shantou. It faces the South China Sea to the south, neighboring Hong Kong and Macao, with a coastline of approximately 11 kilometers. Together with other “Sanjia” towns (namely Jiazi, Jiaxi, and Jiadong), it shares the Jiazi Port—an open port directly connected to Hong Kong and Macao for shipping and trade. It is just 118 nautical miles from Hong Kong. Overland, the Shenshan Expressway and Guangshan Highway run north of the town, offering highly convenient water and land transportation. The town administers 64... More detailed information about Jiaxi Town++
