Former Site of the Red Second Army's Jieshi Command Post

The Former Site of the Red Second Army's Jieshi Command Post is a classic red tourism destination, as well as a base for patriotic education and national defense education.

The “Former Site of the Red Second Army's Jieshi Command Post” and the “Jieshi Revolutionary History Exhibition Hall” are located within the national AAAA-level scenic area of Jieshi Xuanwu Mountain Tourist Zone and the protected area of the Yuan Shan Temple, a national key cultural relics protection unit. The building known as “Zideju” is a historic site with a long revolutionary history.

During the battles in Jieshi fought by the Red Second Army, formed from troops of the Nanchang Uprising in 1927, revolutionary predecessors such as Zhou Enlai and Xu Xiangqian set up the command post at the former site of “Zideju”. Revolutionary martyrs including Peng Pai, an early leader of the peasant revolutionary movement, commanded the troops and the Haifeng-Lufeng peasant revolutionary forces to attack and liberate Jieshi City.

When the ancient sites of Xuanwu Mountain were restored in 1982, with approval from the higher authorities, a plaque was hung at “Zideju”, officially recognizing it as the “Former Site of the Red Second Army's Jieshi Command Post”. In 2008, in order to protect this revolutionary site, develop red tourism resources, fill a local gap in red tourism, and establish an educational base for youth patriotism and revolutionary traditions, the Xuanwu Mountain Management Committee, upon consent from the higher cultural and cultural relics departments and according to the work requirements of the town Party committee and government, specially engaged experts and professors from the Guangdong Provincial Museum to plan the maintenance and renovation of the “Former Site of the Red Second Army's Jieshi Command Post” in a standardized way. Following the renovation plan, the two-story building of the “former site” was developed into the “Jieshi Revolutionary History Exhibition Hall”. The hall was equipped with display cabinets, portrait exhibits, and information plaques, showcasing revolutionary historical relics, photographs, and materials. A bronze statue of martyr Peng Pai was also placed on the first floor. The surrounding environment was landscaped and beautified, turning it into an attractive base for revolutionary tradition education. On the eve of the Army Day in 2009, this “former site”, along with 29 other units across the province, was designated as one of the first batch of “Guangdong Provincial National Defense Education Bases”. On August 15th, the Publicity Department of the Provincial Party Committee, the Political Department of the Provincial Military Region, and the Provincial National Defense Education Office jointly held a ceremony to present the plaque.

Hence its name derived from its coastal landform features—Jieshi. It is one of the three major towns in Lufeng City.
