Guanyin Ridge

A natural seaside tourist destination — Guanyin Ridge is located along the coast of Jieshi Bay in the southern part of Lufeng City, Guangdong Province, stretching across the undulating hills between the border of Jinping Town and Jieshi Town. With a vast bay in front and winding mountain ridges behind, the area enjoys a cool climate and pleasant scenery.

Guanyin Ridge gets its name from the Guanyin Chancong Hall “Shuiyue Palace” situated on the ridge. Shuiyue Palace was first built during the Ming Dynasty and was called “Guanyin Bandan.” It was rebuilt in the 21st year of the Daoguang reign in the Qing Dynasty, and the architectural complex includes a mountain gate, worship pavilion, main hall, and meditation rooms. The Jinxiang Beach at the foot of Guanyin Ridge stretches 8 km long, featuring white sand, clear water, and gentle waves, making it a natural swimming beach. In front of the ridge, there are many uniquely shaped mountains, including Dragon Stone — the spot where Comrades Zhou Enlai and Ye Ting once crossed the sea to escape to Hong Kong — and Zhenhai Stone, the largest cliff inscription in Shanwei City.

At the foot of Guanyin Ridge, there are stretches of soft, fine sandy beaches, crystal-clear bathing waters, and famous sites such as Zhenhai Stone, Dragon Stone, Dragon Tooth Stone, and Double-layered Stone. Rising from the sea are Monk Stone, Black Reef, and Penguin Stone, among other uniquely shaped rocks and stones. On the beach stands a cone-shaped boulder engraved with numerous inscriptions, including the three large characters “Zhenhai Stone,” which were erected in the 10th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1582) by Imperial Envoy Zheng Yue and Garrison Commander Cheng Liru. “Yangwei Shuizhi” was inscribed in the Gengzi year of the Wanli reign by Hu Guoqing of Sanshan. “Yongzhen Anlan,” “Guan Tao,” and “Zhenqu” are stone inscriptions from the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty, authored by Deng Wanlin, the envoy to the Stone Region. On a towering sea-facing cliff over ten meters high, there is a cliff engraving of the two characters “Dragon Stone,” which is uniquely styled.

First take a bus to Jieshi Town, then transfer to a bus to Guanyin Ridge at Yuzhao Park. Usually, Bus No. 6 will pass by Guanyin Ridge en route.
