Lufeng Guangfu Temple

Guangfu Temple, also known as "Guangfu Nunnery" or "Qiaotou Palace," is located in the northwestern suburbs of Jieshi Town, Lufeng City. It is said to have been first built in the late Southern Song Dynasty, and there is a saying among locals that “Guangfu predates Xuanwu,” making it a long-standing Buddhist historical site.

Inscribed on the couplets flanking the mountain gate of Guangfu Temple are the words: “The Boundless Tongue speaks truthful words; the Sprouts of Blessing and Wisdom bloom into Bodhi flowers.” These lines express how the temple preaches the Dharma for the benefit of all beings, guiding people to comprehend the path and truth, ultimately attaining a transcendent state.

The temple underwent multiple renovations in the seventh year of the Jiaqing reign (1802), the fourteenth year of the Daoguang reign (1834), and the fifth year of the Tongzhi reign (1866) during the Qing Dynasty.

Before the founding of the People's Republic of China, Guangfu Temple had four monks.

In 1958, religious activities at the temple ceased, and the site was used by the Lufeng County Tin Ore Concentration Plant.

In 1982, local Buddhist devotees built a makeshift shrine next to the original temple and resumed religious activities.

Since 1992, with funding from people across society and support from Buddhist followers, Guangfu Temple has begun restoring parts of the structure. In recent years, under the leadership of Venerable Master Shida, Buddhists have contributed both funds and labor to reclaim 18,000 square meters of the original temple land, including over 500 square meters of building area.

Jieshi Town: Jieshi Town has a long history and has always been an important coastal defense town. Coastal fortifications were established here as early as the Song Dynasty. In the 22nd year of the Hongwu reign (1389) during the Ming Dynasty, Jieshi Wei was set up—one of the nation’s 36 Wei, on par with the famed Tianjin Wei and Shenyang Wei. Hence its name, which refers to its coastal geographical features. It is one of the three major towns in Lufeng City. Located in the southern part of Lufeng, Jieshi Town borders Jieshi Bay to the east and faces Jinxia Town across the water. The town covers a total area of 120 square kilometers, with a coastline stretching 40.3 kilometers, and has a population of over 170,000. It governs 41 village (residential) committees.
