Ruaha National Park

Ruaha National Park is one of Tanzania's most mysterious wildlife reserves, located in central Tanzania, about 130 km from Iringa. Covering an area of 10,300 square kilometers, it is Tanzania’s largest elephant habitat and combines spectacular wilderness landscapes, serene wildlife scenes, and breathtakingly beautiful scenery.

The park is named after the Great Ruaha River, which flows along its eastern boundary, forming a magnificent canyon. The Great Ruaha River eventually joins the Rufiji River, where rhinos and crocodiles live. Large antelopes, reedbucks, and buffaloes often venture near the river to drink, attracting the attention of lions, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, and wild dogs. The park also has a runway for small aircraft on the western bank of the river.

Most of the park lies above 900 meters in elevation, where rolling hills, valleys, and plains create uniquely diverse terrain for wildlife viewing. Due to its remote location, much of the park remains undeveloped. As a result, safaris here often offer a sense of private adventure and a truly distinctive experience.
