The Pretoria Art Museum is located in Arcadia Park, Pretoria, South Africa. The original art museum was built in the 1930s. A new art museum was reconstructed in 1962 and officially opened in May 1964. The new museum building features a modern international fashion style infused with unique innovative concepts, offering a refreshing impression. Moreover, the surroundings of the museum are fresh and beautiful, with the blue sky, blooming flowers, green lawns, and the museum itself forming a picturesque scene.

The Pretoria Art Museum is an important museum showcasing the development of South African art. The museum focuses on collecting works of South African art, primarily housing the municipal government’s art collection. Most of these artworks were donated by one lady: in 1932, Lady Michaelis donated a large collection of art left to her by her late husband to the city government. These works mainly include pieces from the 17th-century “North Dutch school” as well as works by renowned South African artists such as Pieter Wenning and Frans Oerder. In recent years, the museum has placed greater emphasis on acquiring contemporary South African artworks.
