The Colossus of Rhodes is the most mysterious of the Seven Wonders, as it stood for only fifty-six years before collapsing, leaving archaeologists uncertain even about its exact location and appearance.

The Colossus of Rhodes was located at the harbor of the island of Rhodes in Greece, leading to the Mediterranean Sea. In 305 BC, the Rhodian Confederation fought a war against the Antigonids of Malta (Malta)

and emerged victorious, gaining a large amount of war spoils. To commemorate this triumph, they sold the spoils and used the funds to build the Colossus of Rhodes.
