Danish Railway Museum

The Danish Railway Museum was established in 1975 and is located in Odense, Region of Southern Denmark. It is the national railway museum of Denmark. The site was previously a locomotive shed, close to the city center’s railway station. Though not as large as the National Railway Museum in the UK, it is the foremost of its kind in the Scandinavian region.

The Danish Railway Museum is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Odense area. Covering an area of ten thousand square meters, the museum displays 50 locomotives and carriages from various periods of Danish railway history, as well as original railway buildings. Highlights include Denmark’s historic Class E steam locomotive, which once pulled the funeral train of King Frederik IX, diesel locomotives, S-train carriages from Copenhagen in the 1930s, and Lyntog diesel trains from the 1950s. Here, you can imagine the heyday of these locomotives. During school holidays, a small steam train operates in the museum grounds, allowing children to enjoy the thrill of riding a train.
