Odense is located between Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen, and the Jutland Peninsula. It is a key stop on the route from Copenhagen to Jutland and the country’s third-largest city. Founded in 988, it is one of Denmark’s oldest cities.

Its long history, rows of red-walled and red-tiled houses with high roofs, traditional Danish wooden buildings found around every corner, and vibrant cultural arts make Odense a charming city. The Gothic St. Canute's Cathedral, originally built in the 11th century and named after King Canute IV of Denmark, is one of the largest and finest of its kind in the country. The famous writer and poet Hans Christian Andersen was born in this city, and the renovated Hans Christian Andersen Museum now houses a large collection of his works and personal items. The local theater is also not to be missed, frequently staging distinctive operas and plays that offer a unique taste of regional cultural heritage.

If you’re visiting the city with children, Odense Zoo is a must-see. It is the most renowned zoo in Denmark, where you can see animals from around the world, including African chimpanzees, South American walruses, Siberian tigers, Caribbean manatees from the South American rainforest, marine fish, penguins, and African lions.
