Man Looking at the Sea Sculpture

The Man Looking at the Sea sculpture is located on the southwest coast of Denmark, in the western part of Esbjerg in the Region of Southern Denmark, near Sædding Beach and facing the Fisheries and Maritime Museum. It is the most famous landmark in Esbjerg and attracts numerous visitors every year.

Designed by Dutch sculptor Svend Wiig Hansen, the Man Looking at the Sea sculpture was installed here in 1995 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Esbjerg’s founding. The entire sculpture consists of four men, all white in color and standing 9 meters tall. The four figures sit side by side, facing the North Sea. It is said that on clear days, the sculpture can be seen from as far as 10 kilometers away and has been recognized as an internationally renowned piece of sculpture.
