Chester is located in the northwest of England, on a bend of the River Dee near the Welsh border, and is the county town of Cheshire in northwestern England.

One of the most important tourist attractions in the Chester area is Chester Cathedral, a Grade I listed historic building in the UK, which showcases architectural features from medieval Norman to Gothic styles. The cathedral was formerly known as St Werburgh's Abbey, dedicated to Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. Since 1541, it has been the seat of the Bishop of Chester and a pilgrimage center, as well as the administrative, festival, and music hub of the city of Chester and its diocese. The Chester Racecourse, the oldest still-in-use horse racing track in England, is also a must-visit attraction in the area, surrounded by numerous hotels, bars, shops, and restaurants. From the ancient Roman walls that encircle Chester, you can also enjoy a panoramic view of the racecourse.

The Renaissance-style Town Hall, opened in 1869, the massive stone Chester Roman Amphitheatre, Chester Zoo—one of the largest and most popular zoos in the UK, the Dewa Roman Experience museum showcasing the history and culture of Roman-era Chester, and the Chester Military Museum are all great places to explore ancient European architectural styles, Chester’s cultural arts, and social life.
