Introduction The city’s most famous and largest park, located just west of Buckingham Palace, separated only by a wall, and covering an area of over 250 hectares.

The park was first opened to the public in the late 16th century. Historically, it served as a deer park for British kings and later became a venue for horse racing and car racing. The park also features the renowned Royal Avenue, lined with towering trees that create a green “tunnel” effect along the road. Within the park are forests, rivers, and grasslands, spanning thousands of acres of serene and tranquil greenery. It also houses a monument built by Queen Victoria in memory of her husband, Prince Albert.

Summer is the liveliest season in Hyde Park, when an event called “Proms in the Park” (or open-air concerts) is often held. There are no seats in the venue, allowing audiences to stroll while listening to live band performances or even dance to the rhythm of the music. When concerts are held, Hyde Park truly becomes an ocean of music.

By the late 19th century, Hyde Park had become a gathering place for the British. A section known as “Speaker’s Corner” was set up near the arched entrance in the northeast corner of the park. There is no stage or lighting, and speakers bring their own equipment. Every Sunday, speakers can share a wide range of political views here, with topics varying greatly—from opinions on certain international issues to promoting various religions and art forms.
