St. James's Palace
Introduction The main gate of the palace is quite charming, featuring a striking Tudor-style lodge. However, the gate is located on a narrow sidewalk, and the surrounding traffic conditions are terrible. Although it is also guarded by the Yeomen of the Guard, the dark palace walls face a small alley and are very inconspicuous. It’s not surprising that passersby might mistake it for a warehouse.
This palace was built by Henry VIII in 1532 and has been a royal residence since 1678. It remained the home of British monarchs until 1837, when the court moved to Buckingham Palace. The diamond-shaped clock on the palace gate is also a curious and interesting feature.
