London Theatre Museum

The London Theatre Museum (TheaterMuseum) is located in London’s West End. It offers visitors a place to enjoy, understand, and learn about history through the museum’s extensive collection related to British performance history, making it the world’s largest theatre-themed museum, including a wealth of items dating back to the 16th century.

Here, the definition of performance is very broad, encompassing: drama, balls, opera, musicals, circus acts, puppet shows, concerts, rock and pop performances, and more. Costumes, design sketches, manuscripts, scripts, posters, oil paintings, videotapes, as well as archival materials from the National Video Archive of Performance are among the extensive collection on display. These artefacts allow visitors to imagine and reconstruct the performances and artistic lives of past eras in this unique setting.
