Maritime Greenwich

The architectural complex in Greenwich, a suburb of London, along with its nearby gardens, was built in the 17th and 18th centuries in styles reflecting both art and science. The Queen’s House, designed by Inigo Jones, was the first Palladian-style building on the British mainland, and it was not until recently that similar styles appeared — the Royal Naval College, designed by Christopher Wren. The gardens were based on designs by André Le Nôtre and include the Royal Observatory Greenwich, a masterpiece by Wren and scientist Robert Hooke.
