Tate Modern

Tate Modern is situated on the south bank of the River Thames in London, overlooking St. Paul’s Cathedral from across the river. The museum building was formerly a power station that stopped operating in 1981. It was subsequently converted into a museum by Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, and officially opened in 2000. Tate Modern is the national museum of international modern art in the UK and an important part of the "Tate group," which also includes Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool, Tate St Ives, and Tate Online.

Unlike traditional art galleries, Tate Modern does not arrange artworks in chronological order. Instead, it categorizes them into four themes: History/Memory/Society, Nude/Action/Body, Landscape/Matter/Environment, and Still Life/Object/Real Life. These are displayed in galleries on the 3rd and 5th floors. This thematic arrangement allows visitors to explore artworks from different periods within the same space, centered around a single theme.

Tate Modern specializes in collecting contemporary art from the 20th century to the present. Works by artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Andy Warhol, Mondrian, and Dalí are particularly renowned. It is one of the world’s most famous contemporary art museums, attracting over 5 million visitors each year.
