Millennium Dome

The Millennium Dome is located in London, UK. It was built to celebrate the turn of the third millennium and opened in 2000. Designed by British architect Richard Rogers, it is an iconic London landmark and has hosted numerous major events. Located on the River Thames, it is the world's largest dome. Once hailed as Britain's most successful paid tourist attraction and a focal point of the UK's "Celebration of the Year 2000" festivities, it drew massive attention.

Built at great expense, the Millennium Dome was not well-received by many Londoners, who felt the building could never serve as a fitting symbol of the city. Few structures in the world were as fragmented in design as London’s Millennium Dome. In 2001, Forbes magazine ranked it as the ugliest building in the world. The Dome’s interior is divided into 14 themed zones, including Faith, Talk, Ideas, Rest, Home, Body, and Learning. Surrounding these areas is a performance space. Both inside and outside the Dome, there is a variety of entertainment features. Inside, you’ll find the Dome Clock, the Millennium Star, while outside, highlights include a 13-meter-tall Dome Map, the Childhood Cube, the Greenwich Pavilion, and other eye-catching sculptures.

In 2005, the Millennium Dome was renamed “The O2.” Since then, it has become a venue for numerous large-scale events, including concerts and music festivals. By the 2012 Olympics, it also served as a competition venue for gymnastics, basketball finals, and handball finals.
