London Aquarium of Marine Life

The London Aquarium of Marine Life is located on the first floor of County Hall on the South Bank of the Thames. Opened in 1997, it is the largest and most spectacular aquarium in London, attracting one million visitors each year. The aquarium houses an abundance of marine life, featuring over 500 species and 14 themed zones, making it one of the largest aquariums of marine life in Europe.

The London Aquarium of Marine Life is the best place to see sharks, with 12 species from around the world—about 40 in total—that are sure to impress. Its standout feature is the robotic fish exhibit. In 2005, Professor Huosheng Hu from the Department of Computer Science at Essex University and his team of human-centred robotics developed robotic fish, three of which were placed in the aquarium. These dazzling robotic fish “swim” in a specially designed tank, adorned with jewel-like scales and moving in an astonishingly lifelike manner.

The robotic fish in the aquarium are truly worth seeing and full of fun. It’s amazing how gracefully and beautifully they move, and their extraordinary performance has been well received by visitors. Additionally, in May 2011, the aquarium opened a new penguin exhibition, featuring eight gentoo penguins brought from Edinburgh Zoo, adding even more variety to the attraction.
