St. James's Park

St. James's Park (St. James's Park) is located on the southern edge of the St. James's district in Westminster, London, covering an area of 23 hectares (58 acres), making it the oldest of London's Royal Parks. The park takes its name from a former leper hospital dedicated to St. James the Less, one of Jesus’ disciples. To the west lies Buckingham Palace, to the north the Mall and St. James's Palace, to the east Horse Guards Road, and to the south Birdcage Walk.

St. James's Park features one lake and two islands — St. James's Park Lake, Duck Island, and West Island. A small bridge crosses the lake, offering views westward to Buckingham Palace surrounded by woods and water, and eastward to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office building. Also known as the Duck Pond, the park’s long central water basin gathers ducks of all sizes and colors. It’s common to see ducklings skimming across the water, leaving trails of ripples, along with various protected bird species such as swans and pheasants. Feeding time takes place daily at 3 PM. As one of the most beautiful parks in central London, St. James's Park is a favorite leisure spot for both locals and visitors, where you’ll often find people sunbathing, strolling, and having picnics.
