Banqueting House

Banqueting House is an ancient building located on Whitehall Street in London, England. It is the only remaining part of the once grand Whitehall Palace. Designed by the British architect Inigo Jones, construction began in 1619 and was completed in 1622, with a total cost of £15,618. Its architectural style was influenced by Andrea Palladio of the Venetian Republic, making it the first completed Neoclassical building in the history of British architecture.

Banqueting House was once the venue for many balls, plays, and major national events. It was also the site where King Charles I of England was publicly executed during the English Civil War. To commemorate this event, Royalists still hold annual memorial services here. The historic building was reclad in Portland stone in the 19th century but retains its original façade faithfully, allowing visitors to learn about the architectural style of the time. Today, the Banqueting House is open to the public as a national monument and is protected as a Grade I listed building. It attracts a constant stream of visitors every year.
