The magnificent bridges we usually see span rivers or straits, connecting two cities, with their length and span being truly awe-inspiring. However, there are also some peculiar bridges in the world, and the Bridge of Aspiration is one of them.

The Bridge of Aspiration is located in Covent Garden, London, UK. Rather than being a traditional bridge, it is more of a covered walkway, as it connects the Royal Ballet School and the Royal Opera House. The Bridge of Aspiration is a pedestrian bridge designed by WilkinsonEyre, a British architecture firm. It is part of the Royal Ballet School and also serves as an architectural landmark visible to the general public on the street. The bridge links different floors of the two buildings, utilizing 23 lightweight aluminum square frames as its structure. Each adjacent frame is rotated by 4 degrees, resulting in a total rotation of 90 degrees from one end to the other. The design also gradually increases in height to accommodate different levels between the buildings — a very light, ingenious, and low-budget solution.

The lighting design of the Bridge of Aspiration was created by a renowned British lighting design team. Using internally illuminated diodes, it produces a soft and elegant nighttime ambiance without overwhelming pedestrians. From the street, one can even see the silhouettes of ballet dancers tiptoeing gracefully between the school and the real world.
