The Den

The Den

The Den, formerly known as the New Den, is a football stadium located in Bermondsey, Southeast London, England. With a total seating capacity of 20,146, it serves as the home ground of Millwall Football Club. The Den is approximately a quarter of a mile from the Old Den and is the club's sixth home ground since its establishment on the Isle of Dogs in 1885.

The Den, which cost £16 million to build, was officially opened on August 4, 1993, by then-opposition Labour Party leader John Smith. The inaugural match was a friendly against Sporting Lisbon, managed by Bobby Robson, which the visiting team won 2–1. The Den was the first all-seater stadium to be built following the recommendations of the Taylor Report, published in response to the Hillsborough disaster, and it was also the first new professional football stadium constructed in London since 1937. In the summer of 2012, Millwall renamed the "Main West Stand" in honor of the late club legend Barry Kitchener, naming it the "Barry Kitchener Stand."

The Den has frequently been used as a filming location for movies, television shows, and advertisements. It served as the real-life counterpart for the fictional football team "Harchester United’s" home ground, "The Dragons Lair," in the British Sky Broadcasting series "Dream Team." It has also appeared in the British Independent Television series "Primeval." In March 2008, a home match between Millwall and Leyton Orient was featured in an episode of "The Bill." Also in March 2008, sportswear manufacturer Nike used the stadium for three days and nights to film their "Take It To The Next Level" advertisement. In 2010, scenes filmed at The Den involving Arsenal, West Ham, and Millwall were used in Kit Kat’s "Cross your Fingers" advertisement.
