Emirates Stadium

The Emirates Stadium, also translated as the Emirates Airlines Stadium or the Emirate Stadium, is the current home ground of the English Premier League club Arsenal. It officially opened in the 2006–07 season. Located in the Islington district of North London, it has a seating capacity of 60,432 and covers an area of 6.9 hectares, making it the second-largest stadium in the Premier League.

Although Arsenal was founded in 1886, it did not move to its current home in North London — Highbury Stadium — until 1913. Because the stadium was located within a residential area, expanding it proved extremely difficult. As a result, the club announced the construction of a new stadium in November 1999. The design of the stadium was handled by HOK Sport (now Populous), which had previously worked on the Australian Stadium in Sydney, the new Wembley Stadium in England, Royal Ascot Racecourse, and the Centre Court at Wimbledon. The total cost amounted to £400 million. Compared to many historic stadiums, the Emirates Stadium boasts luxurious facilities, including 150 executive boxes, 250 wheelchair-accessible seats, 41 camera positions, and 215 media seats. It also features infrastructure such as a 1,000-square-meter club merchandise store.
