Chelsea Physic Garden was established in 1673 in London, England, originally founded as a medicinal garden. It is the second oldest botanical garden in the UK, after the University of Oxford Botanic Garden, which was founded in 1621.

Chelsea Physic Garden was initially mainly used for teaching students about medicinal plants and rehabilitation therapies, with plants neatly cultivated for use in indigenous and Western medicine, as well as for making perfumes and spices. In 1983, the garden became a charitable trust, and it was opened to the public for the first time at that time. The Rock Garden within Chelsea Physic Garden is the oldest alpine garden in the UK, where the country’s largest olive tree is planted. This magnificent tree is surrounded by tall heat-absorbing brick walls, making it the garden’s showpiece.
