Apsley House is known as the “No. 1 London” and was formerly the residence of the Earl of Wellington. It is now listed as a Grade I historic building in the UK. The first Duke of Wellington—Apsley—retired here after his illustrious military career, which contributed to its fame.

Apsley House is located at the southeastern corner of Hyde Park, with the famous Wellington Arch standing directly to its south. Especially at night when the lights are dazzling, the glow from this building and the Wellington Arch intertwine, creating a spectacular sight. Although the eighth Duke of Wellington occasionally resides in some rooms of the building, Apsley House is currently managed by English Heritage and remains open to the public as a museum and art gallery. It is sometimes also referred to as the Wellington Museum.

Apsley House is considered one of the most magnificent buildings in London. Designed by Robert Adam and built between 1771 and 1778, it may be the only surviving and fully preserved British noble residence from that era, with much of its original decorative style retained. The museum’s collection mainly includes over 200 paintings, 83 of which were collected by the first Duke of Wellington after the Battle of Vitoria in 1813, showcasing significant artistic value. In addition, the rooms house a selection of porcelain, silverware made for the Duke, sculptures, and furniture—antique treasures of invaluable heritage.
