Southwark Cathedral

Southwark Cathedral is located in the Southwark district of London, on the south bank of the River Thames near London Bridge. It serves as the cathedral church of the Anglican Diocese of Southwark and has been a spiritual haven for Christians for over 1,000 years. A church has stood on this site since the year 606. The current Southwark Cathedral is Gothic and was built between 1220 and 1420, with the nave rebuilt in the 19th century in the 13th-century style.

Southwark Cathedral is London’s oldest cathedral and also the city’s earliest Gothic church. More than just a place of worship, it has served as a sanctuary for numerous princes, beggars, high-ranking clergy, poets, playwrights, prisoners, and patients. This majestic cathedral hosts the University of Surrey's annual Honours Degree ceremony, the Regent’s College graduation ceremonies, as well as the medical degree conferral ceremonies of King’s College London. It is also the venue for the annual Christmas carol service held by the London Nautical School.
