Van Gogh Museum

　 　 Introduction The Van Gogh Museum is located between the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum. It is a building in the style of De Stijl architecture, constructed in 1973. The museum currently houses 205 paintings, 524 drawings and watercolors, as well as hundreds of envelopes and Japanese woodblock prints discovered in Van Gogh’s home after his death (1890). It holds a vast collection of valuable works by this Dutch master. These pieces were made possible through the support of Van Gogh’s brother Theo and his nephew, and are deeply rooted in their own historical context.

The museum, along with the Kröller-Müller Museum near Otterlo in Arnhem, houses about half of Van Gogh’s works, all of which have never been publicly sold. The museum was closed on April 5, 1999, and 130 of Van Gogh’s works were relocated to the southern wing of the Rijksmuseum for exhibition.
