Zaanse Schans
Introduction Zaanse Schans is an attraction located about 15 minutes by car northwest of Amsterdam. Here you can visit green wooden houses built from Zaandam timber in 17th-century style; windmills powered by wind used for pressing oil and making pigments, with the interiors also open to visitors; as well as nearby cheese factories, clog workshops, antique shops, and more. Transportation Depart from Amsterdam Central Station heading toward Alkmaar. The train ride takes 15 minutes to Koog-Zaandijk Station, then it’s about an 8-minute walk from there to reach the site.
