Introduction The Rijksmuseum was completed in 1885 after nine years of construction, and it can be regarded as the treasure of the kingdom. The first floor displays information and valuable historical materials about the founding of the nation, overseas voyages, wars, and the Oranjes. The exhibits on the other floors (a total of 13 exhibition halls) consist of 17th-century Dutch paintings, which are unmatched in both quantity and content among Dutch museums. These collections date back to the time of Louis Napoleon, the first king of the Netherlands.

Visitors can pick up a floor plan at the museum’s information desk to more easily find the exhibitions they want to visit. The museum houses famous works by Dutch masters, such as Rembrandt’s “The Night Watch,” as well as fine pieces of furniture, jewelry, porcelain, and clothing. In addition, two rooms dedicated to puppet collections attract many visitors like magnets. There is also a nice cafeteria at the west entrance of the museum.
