Munt Tower

The Munt Tower is situated in the busy Muntplein square of Amsterdam. The original tower was built from 1480 to 1487, but it was burned down in a major fire in 1618. The present-day Munt Tower was built between 1619 and 1620 in the Renaissance style. It is called the “Munt Tower” because coin minting occurred here during the French occupation of Amsterdam in 1672. The tower has clocks on all four of its sides, which are said to be the most accurate clocks in the Netherlands. Many visitors come here to witness their precision.
