Amsterdam Tulip Museum

Tulips were introduced to the Netherlands from the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century and quickly became popular among the upper class. To this day, tulips are the most beloved flower in the Netherlands and a national symbol, regarded as one of the country’s four great treasures. In honor of this, the Netherlands has established a museum dedicated to showcasing the cultivation, culture, and history of tulips — the world-renowned Amsterdam Tulip Museum.

Opened to the public in 2005, the Amsterdam Tulip Museum is located in the historic heart of Amsterdam, close to many fine shops, galleries, and cafés, making it conveniently situated. The museum is dedicated to exhibiting items and films related to the Netherlands’ unofficial national flower — the tulip. Inside, there are numerous images displaying various tulip varieties, along with information on their cultivation history. The museum also houses many tulip vases, ornaments, paintings, and more. Through pictures, physical objects, and interactive videos, the museum illustrates the journey of tulip bulbs from their original wild forms to the modern cultivated varieties of the 21st century. In the museum shop, you can purchase unique tulip souvenirs, a wide selection of seasonal bulbs, books, and handicrafts. The museum is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, year-round except for Christmas Day and Queen’s Day on April 30th.
