Allard Pierson Museum

The Allard Pierson Museum is an archaeology museum of the University of Amsterdam. Officially opened in 1934, it is named after Allard Pierson (Allard Pierson), the university’s first professor of classical archaeology. It mainly houses historical artifacts from ancient Egypt, the Ancient Near East, ancient Greece, Etruria, ancient Rome, and Cyprus.

The collections of the Allard Pierson Museum date back to between 4000 BC and 500 AD, including many distinctive models of ancient temples and buildings. In the Ancient Egypt section, there is a dedicated room for displaying mummies and sarcophagi, as well as a video presentation on the process of mummification. The Greek ceramics collection emphasizes black-figure and red-figure pottery produced in the 5th and 6th centuries BC.
