Amsterdam Dungeon
Similar to the London Dungeon, York Dungeon, and the Magic Museum in Hamburg, the Amsterdam Dungeon is also operated by Merlin Entertainments Ltd., a UK-based company. Its main concept is to present historical tragedies through interactive adventures. The actors, vehicles, performances, and special effects are all used to recreate the horrors and bleakness of history.
Based on Dutch history, the Amsterdam Dungeon features several major themed exhibits, such as the Torture Chamber — the most vivid performance in the entire dungeon, where tormentors hang and whip criminals while selecting young visitors to watch; the Dutch East India Company, which forcibly recruited locals for maritime trade at an 18th-century dockside tavern; and the Ship’s Doctor, where visitors can witness the brutal practices of 18th-century naval surgeons. In addition, there are various other bloody and terrifying scenes that send chills down your spine.
