Reggio Emilia

Reggio Emilia is a city in northwestern Italy and the capital of the Province of Reggio Emilia, located in the Emilia-Romagna region. The renowned early childhood education model, the Reggio Emilia Approach, is based here. The area also hosts campuses that are part of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

The old town of Reggio Emilia has a hexagonal layout and features numerous religious buildings and exquisite palaces, such as the cathedral with three naves, the Baptistery of Saint John the Baptist, the Church of Saint Augustine, and the Bishop's Palace. The Church of St. Peter and St. Prospero, built in 1586, houses Baroque paintings by masters such as Pietro Desani and Camillo Gavasetti. The Palazzo Comunale, constructed in 1414, includes the Sala delle Tre Carte (Room of the Three Colors) and the Museum of the Italian Flag. The city’s collection of modern art and its renovated restaurants offering gourmet cuisine are also worth visiting and sampling.
