Piacenza

Piacenza is a city in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, serving as the capital of the Province of Piacenza. It is a commercial and industrial hub of the region, located at the confluence of the Trebbia River and the Po River. The city also hosts a campus of the Polytechnic University of Milan.

Piacenza is home to many historic palaces, many of which feature luxurious gardens, with some even housing natural history museums. The Palazzo Gotico, built in 1281, is the best-preserved medieval civic building in northern Italy. Palazzo Farnese, constructed in 1568, was the residence of the Dukes of Parma from the Farnese family.

Notable local attractions include Piazza Cavalli, which features a bronze equestrian statue, the Piacenza Cathedral (Duomo di Piacenza)—one of the most precious examples of Romanesque cathedrals in northern Italy—the Romanesque/Gothic Church of San Francesco, and the Piacenza Archaeological Museum, which houses pre-Roman artifacts including the Piacenza Liver (Il Fegato Etrusco di Piacenza). In addition, Piacenza is famous for its distinctive local cuisine, which is definitely worth trying.
