Introduction The Stabian Baths are the oldest bath complex in Pompeii, dating back to around the 2nd century BC. Upon entering the baths, the first thing you see are the bathing pools surrounding the central courtyard, resembling a sports arena—featuring separate pools for men, women, and a swimming pool. Both the men’s and women’s sections have dressing rooms and sauna rooms, with heat circulating through the floors throughout the entire complex, maintaining a constant indoor temperature—an indication of the ancient Romans’ passion for bathing.
