Florence

Florence is located in a basin on the western foothills of the central Apennine Mountains. It is the capital of Italy’s central Tuscany region (Region of Tuscany) and Florence Province, as well as the largest and most populous city in the area. Since the European Middle Ages, it has been an important cultural, commercial, and financial center in Italy and even across Europe. It served as the capital of unified Italy from 1865 to 1871.

Florence is the birthplace of the Renaissance movement and the cradle of art and architecture. It boasts numerous historic buildings as well as world-class museums such as the Uffizi Gallery, the Galleria dell'Accademia, the Bargello Museum, and the Palatine Gallery in the Pitti Palace. These museums house rich collections that are treasures for people all over the world. This ancient city has deep cultural roots, and many notable historical figures were born and flourished here, including the poet Dante, the painters Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, the political theorist Machiavelli, and the sculptor Donatello. Florence is also a world-renowned cultural tourism destination, attracting large numbers of domestic and international visitors every year.
