Florence Baptistery

The Florence Baptistery is located in Piazza del Duomo in the Italian city of Florence, opposite the Florence Cathedral and Giotto's Campanile. It is one of the oldest buildings in Florence, holding the status of a minor basilica, and is considered one of the most elegant and beautiful religious structures in the city.

Built between 1059 and 1128, the Florence Baptistery is designed in the Romanesque architectural style and features an octagonal shape. It is renowned for its three sets of gilded bronze doors with bas-reliefs, crafted by Lorenzo Ghiberti, which hold significant artistic importance. These doors were so beautiful that Michelangelo referred to them as the "Gates of Paradise" and credited them with ushering in the Renaissance. This elegantly shaped baptistery has been the site of baptism for many notable figures, including numerous leaders of the Renaissance such as Dante and members of the Medici family. Until the late 19th century, all Catholic Florentines were baptized here.

Not only is the exterior of the Florence Baptistery innovative, but its interior decoration is also extremely exquisite, adorned with a series of sculptures and frescoes that are truly masterpieces of art, offering a feast for the eyes.
